Skip the Garmin CSV export: ask your watch data directly
You do not need to export Garmin data to use it with AI. Connect your Garmin to your AI once with a private link. Your AI then reads your activities, laps, sleep, and Body Battery live when you ask, so there is no CSV to download or upload.
The export path works, but every step is manual: download a file, find it, upload it, ask, and repeat next week when the numbers are old. A live connection skips all of that. Your watch stays the source, and your AI reads it the moment you ask.
Why people export Garmin data
Athletes want a second opinion on their training. The usual trick is to pull an activity list out of Garmin Connect as a CSV, or request the full account export and wait for a zip. Then they drop the file into a chat and ask for patterns.
That gets you an answer about the past. The file does not update. Tomorrow’s run is not in it. Last night’s sleep is not in it unless you export again.
Export versus a live connection
| CSV or zip export | Garmin MCP link | |
|---|---|---|
| What you do each time | Download, find the file, upload it | Type a question |
| How fresh the numbers are | As old as the export | Whatever your watch last synced |
| Sleep and Body Battery | Separate files, if at all | Same chat as your runs |
| Laps and interval reps | One activity file at a time | Ask by activity or by rep distance |
| Works on your phone | Awkward | Yes, in your AI app (tested in Claude) |
Connect instead of export
- Open Connect your Garmin.
- Enter your Garmin email and select Continue.
- Enter your password and select Connect Garmin. Type the code if Garmin sends one.
- Select Copy to copy your private link.
- Add it to your AI app as a custom connector. In Claude: open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Name it “Garmin”, paste the link, and select Continue.
- Keep No sign-in selected and select Add.
- Ask your first question.

Questions that used to need a spreadsheet
- List my runs from the last 30 days with distance, time, and average heart rate.
- Show the laps of my last long run and tell me where the pace dropped.
- What pace have I been running my 1000 m reps at lately?
- How did the work reps of Tuesday’s interval session compare to my threshold pace?
- What are my personal records, and which one is the most recent?
- How has my lactate threshold pace moved this season, week by week?
Each of these maps to a read-only tool: activity lists by date, laps, interval reps, comparable reps across runs, personal records, and threshold history. Your AI picks the tool. You read the answer.
When an export still makes sense
If you want a permanent archive, or you plan to build your own charts in a spreadsheet, keep exporting. Garmin MCP reads data; it does not store a copy for you, and it does not write anything back to Garmin. For everyday questions about training, the live link is the shorter path.

Questions
Can I use my Garmin data in an AI app without a CSV?
Yes. Connect Garmin once, paste your private link in your AI app as a custom connector, and ask. Tested with Claude. Other AI apps that accept a custom MCP connector link can use the same link.
Does my AI see my whole Garmin history?
Your AI fetches what a question needs, such as recent activities, a date range, or one night of sleep. It does not pull your full history at once.
Is the data live?
It is as fresh as your last watch sync with Garmin Connect. Sync the watch, then ask.
Can my AI change my Garmin data?
No. All 15 tools are read-only. Your AI can read your data but cannot create, edit, or delete anything in Garmin Connect.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. If you can log into Garmin Connect and paste a link, you can do this.
Should I still keep my own exports?
Keep them if you want a personal archive or your own spreadsheets. For questions about your training, the live link saves the round trip.
